History of the Atlantis Hotel

The Atlantis is a hotel built by a dream, in a dreamlike setting...

In the beginning, in the 1980s, only a few young Europeans had discovered the incredible beauty of Playa Bonita. It was just a rustic place, with a few fisherman who moored their boats at the edge of the bay.

Young people like to dream, and they imagined the possiblities of building a house in this place, a bit removed from the fishing village of Las Terrenas. So they started by building a cluster of little stone houses, with curves instead of square corners, enclosed courtyards, columns, towers, and galleries… The entryways are adorned with playful tiles, and there are mystic drawings on the floor and walls. They created an informal garden, where they planted the loveliest flowers they could find in the environs, on their excursions around the island.

Several years later, some friends came to joint them. Many of them were artists or writers, and new buildings were added. The smallest of them has now become the Atlantis Hotel, an inn which still hints at something mysterious...

Nowadays, the Atlantis Hotel enjoys an international renown, and many guests have succumbed to its charms.
